Why have dentures made by a Clinical Dental Technician

Clinical Dental Technicians (CDT’s) are registered Dental Care Professionals (DCP’s), regulated by the General Dental Council, and are members of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Qualifying as a clinical dental technician involves years of intensive study that exceeds a dental technician’s training through additional modules in sciences, clinical skills and patient care. Their position allows them to offer patients direct treatment for the construction, repairing and fitting of removable dental appliances. Whilst dentists and clinical dental technicians work independently of each other, they may confer on treatments when it is in the best interest of the patient.

Our 4 step service to perfect dentures

Stage One: Consultation

During your first consultation our Clinical Dental Technician will undertake a detailed evaluation, enabling us to create a bespoke treatment plan tailored to you. This initial consultation is free, and includes a free oral health check. Our Clinical Dental Technician will explain all clinical and technical stages of your treatment.

An initial impression will be taken upon your confirmation you would like to proceed.

Stage Two: Bite Registration

Biting onto a wax model will register your bite. This process illustrates how your jaws align, and where your upper and lower teeth naturally come to rest together. This wax model is created using the impressions taken during the consultation phase.
A custom impression tray may also be used to get more precise impression for use at the next stage. This much like the bite model will be fabricated using the impressions taken at the consultation stage. An extra stage may be required dependant on the patients specific case.

Stage Three: Try In

With the assistance of our clinical dental technician, you will try in a wax trial of your new denture. Both fit and appearance will be considered, if both parties are confident all criteria has been met this will be used to proceed to the finish stage. Should any changes be necessary, this step would be repeated at another time with an updated wax model, this would be referred to as a re-try.

These wax models are comprised of new teeth, set in an articulated wax model in the form of a denture.

Stage Four: Finish

This final visit will conclude your journey with us. You will try in your brand new bespoke denture, and leave with your dazzling new smile.

Any minor adjustments or easing would be carried out with you present, trying your denture in again immediately. Thus allowing the best fit and aesthetics possible.

Usually around 14 days after fitting your new denture we will arrange a follow up review appointment.
